Where the Sea meets the Sky, Linen Noren
This is a special-order Noren, which is dyed and over-dyed many times to create the delicate gradation of dark indigo blue, the Sea, reaching up into lighter shades of Sky. This is two-panels, lightly sewed together on top and then open below that so a person could walk through it (as they do in Japan); hand-dyed by our resident Kyoto artist, using “Asa”, a Japanese hemp/linen, 34″ wide by 5′ long.
In Japan, Noren are used in an open doorway, to separate one room or space from another.
Westerners often hang them on the wall as art.
