Indigo Futon-gawa, Simple Box Ikat
This is a simple, repeated Box-Ikat pattern, with a beautiful deep Indigo color. Hard to capture in photos, the Indigo color repeats in a deep to deeper Indigo (almost black in places) throughout the cotton, which gives it a beautiful, almost “wave-like” quality.
Probably early to mid-20th century. Approximately 44″ wide by 64″ long, the panels are patched together in a random fashion. This futon-gawa was possibly made from a casual woman’s kimono, my guess looking at the patch-work quality.
Medium-good quality, worn in places, with a few small holes here and there.
Simple Box-Ikat Futon-gawa, $425. Shipping included within the continental U.S.
