Noren – Hand-dyed Wall Hangings
Our Noren are hand-dyed with traditional rice-paste resist methods, and are custom-dyed for us by our artist friend in Kyoto, Miwako-san. The Noren she makes are extremely labor-intensive, and take many days of dyeing and over-dyeing to get the colors just right. In Japan, Noren are commonly used as a room-divider, to create a separation between spaces, and often hung in a doorway in place of an actual door. Noren always separate in the middle, so that you can walk through them. Outside of Japan, our customers are very happy to simply hang this beautiful work of art directly on the wall, or else use it in a window, or in a doorway.
Our Noren are hand-dyed Linen, and will gently allow light to pass through.
